TV has nothing to do with obesity
People can be perfectly healthy and still watch TV. Its fatty foods and bad habits NOT TV.
-- Posted By Robpea on September 9, 2007What better way to relax after a hard day's work than to watch TV? To simply say that TV makes people fat is absurd. Its everyone's right to watch TV, and when combined in healthy doses with a healthy lifestyle, there should be no problem.
I think that it's all up to the person and their lifestyle. . They can watch TV for 5 hours a day and choose to work out as well. . It's weak to blame it on TV.
Don't blame the TV, blame the parents for letting the kid sit in front of it. Though there is a link, it all comes down to not being able to blame an electronic device. Eat healthy, go for a walk sometime. Pay attention to the kids emotional welfare.

TV makes Americans fat in the same way forks and spoons do.
If you haven't noticed, America isn't the only country that has TVs. All of the industrialized first world countries have television, it just so happens that the fattest one in the world does too. If you travel around the country, you'll notice that when you go to places with different foods, so does the average weight. Last I checked, Colorado is the leanest state in the union, do you think it's a coincidence that they also have one of the highest vegan/vegetarian per capita rates as well? When I visited Michigan as a teen, I marveled at how many enormously fat people were there. It's no wonder, however, since the area I was in was known for its fudge and candy.
Food and eating habits have a much larger effect on weight than TV ever could. You can sit in front of a TV for six hours a day, but if all you eat is salad, you're not going to get fat. But, if you eat nothing but BK quadruple stackers all day, and you still regularly go to the gym, you're probably going to be fat as a whale in no time. Until televisions can beam fat into the bodies of its viewers, it will never be able to make you fat.
TV contributes to obesity
Inactivity does promote obesity and if we choose sedentary pastimes we will lose the fat fight.
-- Posted By Perdie on September 17, 2007It's up to us to be more picky about what we watch so that we don't spend as much time sitting still. You don't have to give up television but you do have to make more responsible decisions about how you spend your spare time.
I am six foot two and weigh 135 pounds.
My point? Your weight doesn't always depend on what you eat and what you do. While I am in terrible shape physically, my weight is pristine. I have a weak heart and low blood pressure, but my weight is actually low for my height. I used to bike ten miles a day until I moved to crack town Florida, and now I stay in my room and the only exercise I get is playing with my pomeranian and my chihuahua and feeding my two turtles. I am not agoraphobic or antisocial, it's just what I choose to do. I am seeking a job and working on bettering my lifestyle, but until I live in a place where walking down the street is comparable to jumping in a shark tank, I have to do my exercise indoors.
TV promotes a sedentary lifestyle and reduces an individuals desire to be active.
-- Posted By Robpea on September 9, 2007Many studies have proven the link between obesity (especially in children) and watching TV. By choosing an inactive hobby, an avid watcher of television must find alternate means of excercise, which usually takes form as pushing buttons on a remote.
I think TV is one of many cultural devices that has put a damper on creativity and activity.
-- Posted By jhall85 on September 19, 2007everywhere we go now there is a screen to occupy our attention. there are so many gadgets and so much entertainment that people have lost the motivation to be productive and creative. the number of thinkers and people of action is diminishing.

I was born 7 lbs. 11 ounces. Back then they just rounded up, rather than taking it out to a decimal point. So who knows- maybe I actually weighed 7 lbs. 10.6 ounces.
