Why buy name brand cereal?
As a mother of three I try to buy economically. My kids have tried both the name brand cereals and the generic. Honestly to them there is no difference at all when there is a direct copy. Cinnamon Toast Crunch and Lucky Charms both have good count

There is no logical reason to buy name brand when there is a perfectly good generic brand available.
Usually you can even get those "pillows" of cereal at wal*mart for a cheaper price than the generic brand's small box of cereal. I personally haven't tasted a difference between any name brand and generic brand. So, why buy name brand?
I agree, I almost never buy name brand cereal.
Save yourself some money.
Yes, there are some that are patented, but it's similar to buying generic drugs in my opinion. If the same formula is available with no difference aside from a brand name, I'm gonna save some money.
Besides, they all contain the same maximum allowance of rat hairs and insect parts.
Most generics come out of the exact same factory the brand name stuff does, with the exact same recipe.
It's Tony the Tiger, Snap, Crackle, Pop, Sugar Bear, Tuscan Sam & the Leprechaun and all their assorted friends that boost the prices on the name brands.
The problem with generics is the lack of choice, they don't make the really good specialty cereals in generic. While you can get the generic equivalent of Honey Nut Cheerios, you can't find Lucky Charms or Reese Peanut Butter cereal.
I don't understand how one can say it's only a difference of 75 cents, the price differential around here is closer to $3.00 off on generic over name brand. You can't find any name brand cereal for under $6.00 on sale and most are just over $8.00 at our local grocery store.
Many times the generic brand doesn't compare well with the name brands.
Honestly there is a difference it just depends on if you care enough to spend the extra money
-- Posted By ramrod on November 28, 2007I am a cereal junkie and i know the difference between name brand and generic. I'm not feeding a homeless shelter or anything so its not a big deal to spend an extra 75 cents a box to get what im used to. .
There's a reason why people buy branded.
1. They're used to it.
2. It tastes better (satisfaction).
It applies to any other product, not just cereal. Lame argument.
putting it simply- THE MASCOTS. The mascots on brand-name cereals are famous and classic. They are on commercials and ect. The generic mascots are retarded (no offense).

if you are just providing for yourself then the price difference isnt much of an issue
-- Posted By jhall85 on January 28, 2008i dont have to support a family, or anyone but myself for that matter, so i would rather have name brands. it's not that the generic brands are terrible, but they are cheaper for a reason. it's a no name ripoff which means more often than not it will come up a little short of the original.
